Bratislava Sights, Sounds and Hotels

St. Michael's Gate and Tower, considered to be one of the most attractive sites in Bratislava, is the Northern and also the last remaining of the four heavily fortified gates that used to guard the old town. So named after the St. Michael church that once stood next to it on the outside of the town’s fortified walls, the gate dates back to the end of the 13th century. The gate was first closed off by draw bridge, and then a stone bridge was later built, and the entrance closed off with an Iron Gate and also a wooden door. The 14th century base of the tower is of Gothic design, and the copper onion tower, on top of which stands a statue of St. Michael, date from the 18th century. There is a fascinating display on Arms and Municipal Fortifications within the tower, and for excellent photo opportunities of the Old Town and the castle, climb the tower stairs to the 6th floor balcony.

Bratislava's St. Michael's Gate and Tower is an awesome sight, and one of the fabulous highlights that you can explore on a trip to Bratislava. The fantastic Bratislava Hotels will ensure that you are comfortable and enjoy your trip to the fullest.
